Biography

Michael Mello, MD, MPH, is a practicing board-certified emergency physician with 28 years of clinical experience. Dr. Mello is a Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Professor of Medical Science, section of Medical Education at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Professor of Health Services, Practice and Policy at the Brown University School of Public Health. For the last 18 years, he has also been the Director of the Injury Prevention Center at Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Director of the Collis Injury Prevention Research Fellowship and Director of the Master of Science in Population Medicine program at Alpert Medical School. Dr. Mello has extensive mentoring experience, including serving as a mentor to physician-researchers, doctoral students, graduate students and medical students including mentorship on multiple NIH training awards and NIH Loan repayment program awards. Dr. Mello’s mentoring efforts have been recognized by his department, which named the Outstanding Research Mentorship Award in his honor.
