Professional Development (PD) Core

The PD Core serves as a central engine for research workforce readiness across Advance RI-CTR-N as well as partner institutions. Guided by research core competencies, we identify skill gaps, deliver high- impact education, coordinate offerings from other Advance RI-CTR-N cores, and connect research teams to valuable training resources across our partner institutions.

Specific Aims

Aim 1. Establish a centralized framework to coordinate Professional Development across Advance RI-CTR-N; identify training needs in specific research methodologies and CTR core competencies; and develop processes for vetting, implementation, and evaluation of proposed programs. 

Aim 2. Deliver new trainings (digital health, clinical trials, science communication) and programs (e.g. clinical research coordinator academy), as well as established flagship PD activities to meet the evolving needs of investigative teams across the RI CTR landscape. 

Aim 3. Coordinate PD activities across Advance-RI CTR and disseminate educational offerings to meet core competencies through collaborations with IDeA programs in RI and beyond. 

Flagship Programs

Advance-K Scholar Career Development Program

This intensive, year-long program trains junior investigators to submit competitive career development proposals and launch independent research careers.

Advance-R Program

This career development program is designed to help investigators secure their first R-Award (or similar).

Research Mentoring Training Programs

Improve your research mentoring skills through this nationally recognized program from the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) & the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN).
