Caroline Compretta, PhD

Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine at the University of Mississippi, Principal Investigator of the Mississippi Community Engagement Alliance

Biography

Dr. Caroline Compretta is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). In addition to this role, she serves as the Vice Chair of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement and Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine with additional appointments in Population Health Sciences, Pediatrics, and Advanced Biomedical Education. She is also core faculty in the UMMC Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities. Her research focuses on building effective and sustainable research programs to improve health in populations at risk for chronic disease. 

She holds leadership roles in three National Institutes of Health funded centers: the Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research, the Forge AHEAD Center, and the Obesity Health Disparities Research Center. She also serves as PI for several studies examining the social determinants of chronic disease in addition to being the lead PI for the Mississippi Community Engagement Alliance (MS CEAL), an NIH-funded, statewide initiative that addresses COVID-19 disparities.

With over 20 years of experience in community-based research in both educational and medical communities, her work bridges the gap between academic and non-academic partners to help increase participation in research, healthcare access, and positive health outcomes.
